18&U Open Water National Champ Brennan Gravley Commits to Florida

NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has gained a verbal commitment from Las Vegas, Nevada’s Brennan Gravley, who will make the move to Gainesville next fall.

Gravley swims year-round for Sandpipers of Nevada and owns the Winter Juniors-or-faster standard in six different events. He was the 2018 18&U 5k Open Water National champion and placed third overall in the event with a time of 54:32.87. He placed sixth in the 10k at Nationals this past May and was a member of the USA’s second-place 19&U 4x1250m open relay at the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships this September in Eilat, Israel.

Gravley has also seen great success in the pool, most recently winning the 1500m free for the second-straight year at NCSAs this past summer after recording a pair of best times in the 400m and 800m frees at Phillips 66 Nationals. He also placed second in the mile at Juniors West last winter where he notched a lifetime best in every event he swam.

He told Swimming World:

His best times include:

500 free – 4:27.81
1000 free – 9:04.76
1650 free – 15:06.41
200 fly – 1:53.57
200 IM – 1:55.57
400 IM – 3:59.36

When he suits up for the Gators as a member of the class of 2023, Gravley will join a talented distance group that includes Trey Freeman, Khader Baqlah and Santiago Corredor. Florida’s three NCAA mile qualifiers have since graduated and Gravley’s best mile time would’ve scored in the top-18 at the 2018 SEC Championships where they won sixth-straight conference title.

His club coach, Ron Aitken, said:

“I have been extremely proud of Brennan taking the time and patience to find the right school for him. He had several great options and all are excellent schools. He couldn’t go wrong when he was down to his top 3.”

Yes, his on a Paige’s club team, I believe he’s on the National squad though.
