World Juniors Finalist Lea Polonsky Verbally Commits to Cal’s Class of 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Israel’s Lea Polonsky.

She will join Alicia Henry, Stephanie AkakabotaElizabeth CookMelanie JuliaShelby SuppigerElla MazurekAnnika McEnroeJessica DavisMia Kragh and McKenna Stone as a member of the Golden Bears’ loaded class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of California Berkeley! I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and friends for their incredible support and love. Can’t wait to start this journey . Go Bears!! ???”

Polonsky competes for Israel internationally and finished seventh in the 200m IM at the 7th FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest where she also reached the semifinals of the 100m breast. She most recently had three top-5 finishes at Camille Muffat Golden Tour meet in February.

Her best times include (LCM/SCY):

  • 100m breast – 1:09.50/1:01.16
  • 200m breast – 2:33.39/2:16.21
  • 100m fly – 1:01.55/54.59
  • 200m IM – 2:14.28/1:57.76
  • 400m IM – 4:48.22/4:12.48

Polonsky earned bronze in the 200m IM at the Swim Cup Amsterdam and competed at the European Short Course Championships in December. She collected bronze in the 200m IM at the European Junior Championships last summer. She is also the former Israeli National Record holder in the 400m IM.
