NEW COMMIT: The University of Wisconsin has received their third verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from U.S. Open qualifier Charlie Jones of New Bern, North Carolina.

He will join Michael Long and Zach Ward as a member of the Badgers’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin! Thank you to my friends, family, coaches, teammates, and anyone else who has helped me get to where I am in my career. Could not have done it without you! #GoBadgers”

A talented freestyler and butterflyer, Jones trains year-round with East Carolina Aquatics and won four events at the ECSL Championships after placing sixth in the mile at Cary Sectionals. He also earned six best times at the 18&U Winter Championships back in December.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 48.66
  • 200 free – 1:38.79
  • 500 free – 4:29.78
  • 1000 free – 9:31.89
  • 1650 free – 15:44.46

Also competing for The Epiphany School, Jones is a six-time individual NCISAA Division III State Championship finalist. He won the 200 free and was the runner-up in the 100 fly as a junior while taking second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free during his sophomore season.

Under head coach Yuri Suguiyama, the Badgers finished fifth at the 2021 Big Ten Championships. Jones would’ve been the fifth faster swimmer in both the 100 fly and 200 free on Wisconsin’s last year.
