Vladimir Morozov Seeded First Among Strong Field In 100 Free At Russian Nationals

Vladimir Morozov had his first race at Russian Olymlic Trials this morning. In the men’s 100 free prelims he posted 49.01 and grabbed top seed for tonight’s semifinals. Morozov who set to swim just two individual events, was preparing for Nationals in U.S. It’s hard to judge what shape the fastest Russian sprinter currently in since he didn’t compete this year and only had time trials during his training cycle. In 2015, he was third in the world’s ranking with 47.98 – result he posted at the Worlds Trials one year ago. At World championships Morozov was disqualified for false start but went 46.96 in third leg of 4×100 relay.

Tonight’s semis is packed with other strong swimmers with Andrey Grechin (49.05) and Alexander Popkov (49.08) for second and third.

In women’s 200 butterfly prelims Svetlana Chimrova who set Nationals record in 100 fly earlier this meet, posted 2:13.78 to seed first, with Ulyana Vataeva (2:14.15) and Anastasia Guzhenkova (2:14.22) right behind her.

Ilya Khomenko was first in men’s 200 breast prelims, 2:11.84. Kirill Prigoda who already qualified for Rio in 100 breast, came in second – 2:12.68 and Mikhail Dorinov got third, 2:12.73.

In non-Olympic event 50 breast Natalia Ivaneeva seeded first into the finlas with 31.23, just 0.01 off her swim at Stokholm Open earlier this month. Tatiana Kishka 31.72, Anna Ganus 32.00 completed top 3.
