NEW COMMITS: The University at Buffalo has officially entered the 2021 recruiting game after receiving a pair of verbal commitments from Spring City, Pa. native Abbey Malmstrom and Amanda Neeb of New Milford, Conn.

Under head coach Andy Bashor, the Bulls finished second overall in the team standings at the 2020 MAC Championships. Former U.S. National teamer Bridgette Alexander will also join Buffalo’s staff this upcoming season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am SO EXCITED to announce my verbal commitment to continue both my academic and athletic career at University at Buffalo! I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and friends for believing in me and helping me get to where I am today! GO BULLS!”

Primarily a backstroker, Malmstrom does her club swimming with Upper Main Line YMCA and owns the Junior National cut in the 200 back. She raced the 200 back at Juniors East in December and finished 19th in that event at YMCA Nationals in April 2019.

  • 200 back – 2:00.34
  • 200 IM – 2:08.04

Also competing for Owen J. Roberts High School, Malmstrom has competed at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championship the last three years. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also placed 10th in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 back at the PIAA District 01 Championships as a junior.

A talented butterflyer, Neeb swims year-round with Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut and collected the silver medal in the 200 fly at Connecticut Seniors. At YMCA SCY Nationals last spring, she raced three events and achieved a best time in each of them.
