U.S. Open Qualifier Alex Hazlett Verbals to Yale, Will Join Sister in the Ivy League

NEW COMMIT: Yale University has received a new verbal commitment* for the fall of 2022 from U.S. Open qualifier and legacy swimmer Alex Hazlett of Greenwich, Conn.

His family are no strangers to the Ivy League: his sister, Kate Hazlett, is a rising sophomore at Harvard while his father, Bert Hazlett, swam for Yale and graduate in 1987. As a Bulldog, his dad was team captain and was a school record holder.

Hazlett will join Tommy Park, Lucius BrownJack MaketaFinn Henry and Nareg Minassian in New Haven as a member of the Bulldogs’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am proud and honored to announce my commitment to the admissions process to swim and study at Yale University!! I could not be more grateful to my family, friends, and coaches for their endless support in helping me get to this point. Go Bulldogs!! #boolaboola”

Hazlett, who does his club swimming with the Greenwich YWCA Dolphins, finaled in six events at the ISCA International Senior Cup in March before going on to post five top-10 finishes at Richmond Sectionals in May. He also finished fifth in the 200m IM at the U.S. Open – Richmond.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:48.67
  • 400 IM – 4:03.11
  • 100 fly – 48.47
  • 200 fly – 1:50.31
  • 50 free – 20.81
  • 100 free – 44.98
  • 200 free – 1:39.09
  • 100 breast – 56.76
  • 100 back – 51.28
  • 200 back – 1:54.15

Hazlett attends Brunswick School where he also plays basketball and is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. He earned silver in the 100 fly and bronze in the 200 free at the New England DI Prep School Championships during his sophomore season.

In December 2019, he broke the National Independent School record in the 4×100 SCM free relay.

Under head coach Jim Henry, the Bulldogs finished third overall in the team standings at the 2020 Ivy League Championships.
