Annie Lazor missed the Olympic team in the 100 breaststroke by one spot at the U.S. Olympic trials, and looked to bounce back in the 20 — her best event.

Lazor put together a strong race to take the top seed at 2:23.63, a stellar prelim swim. She leads the top 16 qualifiers for tonight’s semifinals.

The second seed went to Ella Nelson, who finished in 2:25.35, also in the final heat with Emily Escobedo, who ended up fourth in 2:26.18.

Lilly King has already punched her ticket to Tokyo by winning the 100 breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha.

But she isn’t finished.

King took the third seed in the 200 breaststroke during Thursday’s preliminary session as she attempts to make the team in both distances for the second time. She won the 100 breaststroke earlier in the meet.

King won her heat with a 2:25.82 to finish well ahead of the rest of the field — four seconds ahead of Julia Poole (2:20.75) in that heat.

In the first circle-seeded heat, Bethany Galat took the top spot in 2:26.51, ahead of Micah Sumrall (2:27.96), who put together a strong final 50, and Allie Raab (2:28.36).

Galat, like Annie Lazor, had a shot in the 100 breaststroke as well, but a late push from Alaska’s Lydia Jacoby got her the second spot behind King in the event as she will become the first Olympic swimmer from Alaska.

Madisyn Cox scratched the event as did Vanessa Pearl.
