TYR Pro Series, Day Three Prelims: Regan Smith Tackling 200 Back/100 Fly Double

The third day of prelims at the USA Swimming TYR Pro Series stop in San Antonio followed what was a lackluster Night Two of finals. With many athletes returning to competition after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic or in heavy training, the times that registered on the scoreboard were ho-hum in nature. The best performance during Thursday night’s finals was Hali Flickinger’s 2:07-mid effort in the 200-meter butterfly.

It will be interesting to see if the performances pick up as the meet rolls on, or if the competition will continue to be a feeling-out process. Here is a look at what transpired during the Day Three prelims.

Women’s 200 Freestyle

Coming off victories in the 400 freestyle and 1500 freestyle during the first two days of the meet, Katie Ledecky put herself in position add a third win to her collection as she maneuvered through the prelims of the 200 freestyle in 1:57.09. That performance handed Ledecky the top seed for the final by a comfortable margin, as Katie McLaughlin touched second in 1:59.35, with Madisyn Cox next in 1:59.74.

Andi Murez was the other competitor to crack two minutes, going 1:59.91, while Joanna Evans was timed in 2:00.00.
