Tim Beerman Steps Down as Coach of High School Powerhouse St. Xavier

St. Xavier High School head swimming and diving coach Tim Beerman has resigned from his role, according to reports Tuesday.

The decision was first reported by ABC affiliate WCPO in Cincinnati. According to St. Xavier Athletic Director Brian Reinhart, Beerman told him that, “after prayer and discernment, it was time to let another individual take over as the head coach.”

Beerman has led the AquaBombers for six seasons, winning the Division I state title each year. The program has won 13 consecutive state titles and a record 42 boys swimming crowns.

Beerman served as the interim coach in 2015-16 and was given the job full-time at season’s end. He spent 13 years at Ursuline Academy, winning four state titles from 1998-2009. He also had three stints as an assistant to St. Xavier coach Jim Brower (1999-2003, 2009-11, 2015).

Beerman was named the 2001 Coach of the Year by National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA).

St. Xavier is a regular contestant for national honors as one of the best high school boys programs, winning the top spot in national rankings for the seventh straight year in 2020. The AquaBombers were named the virtual high school national champions with a legendary 2017 team, by both Swimming World Magazine and NISCA.

“Tim has done a tremendous job of keeping the tradition and the excellence in our swimming and diving program,” Reinhart told WCPO. “He truly cares about the formation of our young men. He built on the tradition that was handed to him and it will be handed on to the next person.”

Beerman remains at the school in campus ministry and said he’s like to remain active in the program, just not as he head coach.

“Tim spends a tremendous amount of time and dedication to the program and it certainly shows in the results but more importantly in our young men’s lives outside of the pool,” Reinhart said. “We thank Tim for his tireless efforts to our young men and our families. He will certainly be missed and leaves some big shoes to fill.”
