Three-Time TAPPS Champion Kirsten Schlortt Stays In-State With Verbal to Southern Methodist

NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Kirsten Schlortt of San Antonio, Texas will stay in-state for her college career after verbally committing to Southern Methodist University for the fall of 2022.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at SMU! I chose SMU for the strong academics, opportunities for my future, and focus on the campus and Dallas community. The leadership and family atmosphere of the coaches and swimmers is truly amazing and strongly embodies my ideal team. The city and campus facilities overall are truly amazing and I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than this. Pony up!”

Schlortt, a backstroker, does her club swimming with Alamo Area Aquatic Association and most recently earned two best times at the George Block Invitational last month after placing 16th in the 100 back at the Lone Star Invite in March. She also finaled in the 100m back at College Station Sectionals in 2020.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 57.28
  • 200 back – 2:03.62
  • 200 IM – 2:10.95

A rising senior at Saint Mary’s Hall School, Schlortt is a six-time TAPPS Championship finalist. She won the 100 back and 100 free as a junior while taking first in the 100 back and second in the 200 free during her sophomore season.

Under head coach Steve Collins, the Mustangs were the team runners-up at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships.

SMU is bringing in Morgan SchieldKate JanzenOlivia LindAshley Lugbill and Tiffanie Ruan this fall, so Schlortt will have three years of overlap with them in Dallas.
