Three-Time New Hampshire DII State Champ Alexis Martino Sends 2022 Verbal to UConn

NEW COMMIT: The University of Connecticut has received their third early verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Futures qualifier Alexis Martino of Windham, N.H. 

She will join Paige Spencer and Hannah Jyawook in Storrs as a member of the Huskies’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Connecticut! I am so thankful for everyone that has helped and supported me along the way! #gohuskies”

A versatile swimmer, Martino trains year-round with Phoenix Swimming and earned a best time at the NH 18&U Winter Championships last month. She finaled in six events at the New England Senior Championships in December 2019 where her highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 400 IM.

In Summer 2019, she sprinted to fifth place in the 50m free at New England LCM Seniors before going on to take 12th in the 100 free at Geneva Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:03.32
  • 400 IM – 4:23.14
  • 50 free – 24.06
  • 100 free – 51.34
  • 200 free – 1:52.02
  • 500 free – 5:01.76
  • 100 back – 58.10
  • 200 back – 2:03.30

Currently a junior at Windham High School, Martino is already a four-time individual New Hampshire DII State Championship finalist. She won the 200 IM and 100 fly as a sophomore while taking first and third, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.

In 2019, she led-off her team’s winning 4×50 free relay in 24.94.

Beginning on July 1, 2020, the Huskies returned to the Big East Conference. UCONN is led by head coach Christopher Maiello.
