Tar Heels Land Big 2022 Verbal from Olympic Trials Qualifier Michelle Morgan

NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has scored another impressive verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Olympic Trials qualifier Michelle Morgan of Tampa, Fla.

She will join Ede Kosik, Ellie Taliaferro, Emma Karam, Lily Reader, Kyleigh Tankard and Aislin Farris as a member of the Tar Heels’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina!! I am so grateful for all of my coaches, family, and friends who helped me through this process, I couldn’t have done it without them. I can’t wait to be a part of the UNC family!! Go Heels! “

A talented freestyler and IMer, Morgan trains year-round with Pipeline Swimming and picked up three best times at the Florida Virtual Championships last month after registering three podium finishes at the Florida OT Qualifier last February.

In Summer 2019, she posted six top-5 finishes at the Florid LCM Age Group Championships before going on to place fourth in the 1500m free and ninth in the 400m free at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

200 free – 1:48.59
500 free – 4:46.08
1000 free – 9:48.16
1650 free – 16:32.95
400 IM – 4:15.82
200 IM – 2:00.92
200 fly – 2:02.26

Currently a junior at Freedom High School, Morgan is a six-time individual Florida 3A State Championship finalist. She won the 200 IM and was the runner-up in the 500 free as a junior while collecting silver in both of those events during her sophomore season.

She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in the pool and in the classroom.

Morgan will undoubtedly be a major asset to the Tar Heels’ lineup at the start of the 2022-23 season. She would’ve been their second-fastest 500 freestyler and miler last season and ranked No. 3 on their roster in the 400 IM.

She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free, C-final of the 200 free/400 IM, and placed top-12 of the mile at the 2020 ACC Championships. Under head coach Mark Gangloff, UNC improved from seventh in 2019 at the conference meet to fourth last season.
