Talia Bates Goes 48.52 in 100 Free, Leads Florida to Wins at Auburn Fall Invitational

Talia Bates helped Florida finish the Auburn Fall Invitational strong, winning the 100 free in a personal-best time of 48.52 seconds. That’s the 10th-fastest time in Gators history.

The Florida women bested Auburn by a 508-421 score, while the men brought a 521-426 victory back to Gainesville.

The lone A cut of the third day of competition went to Bobby Finke, who routed the field in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 14:34.27, the Gators following with three straight B cuts via Brennan Gravley, John VanDeusen and Caleb Kravitz.

Auburn Fall Invitational Results

Eric Friese edged out teammate Adam Chaney to win the 100 free in 42.88. Kevin Vargas went 1:55.90 to win the 200 breast, and Kieran Smith claimed the 200 fly in 1:43.22. The Gators finished the day by going 1-2 in the 400 free relay, the winning squad composed of Trey Freeman, Friese, Chaney and Smith in 2:51.48. Leonardo Garcia got the win for Florida in platform diving, the only Gator among the top six scorers with 361.43 points. In the process, he denied Auburn’s Conner Pruitt a clean sweep of the diving events, Pruitt settling for second.

On the women’s side, Bates went 1-2 in the 100 free with Katelyn Mack. Elise Bauer’s win in the 1,650 free (16:07.30) cued a top-five sweep of the event for the Gators. Rosie Zavaros outdueled Auburn’s Meghan Lee to win the 200 back in 1:56.47, Amanda Ray led a sweep of the top four places in the 200 fly with a winning time of 1:57.44.

Florida capped the Auburn Fall Invitational by winning the 400 free relay in 3:17.02 (Mack, Bates, Kathleen Golding, Gabrielle Hillis).

Youth led the way for Auburn. Sophomore Lleyton Smith got the only men’s win of the night, taking the 200 back in 1:43.68. On the women’s side, freshman Brynn Curtis (2:11.33) outdueled Vanessa Pearl in the 200 breast.

Grace Wensuc won the women’s platform diving with 252.45, Auburn taking the top four spots.
