Sprinter Hailey Hicks of YOTA Announces Verbal Commitment to Georgia

NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyle specialist Hailey Hicks of Raleigh, N.C. has verbally committed to the University of Georgia beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will arrive in Athens as a member of the class of 2025 along with Angharad Evans, Ava Kennedy, Briana Roberson, Hailey Galbraith, Duné Coetzee, Mia Abruzzo, Lily Gardner, Mary Martin, Elsa Fretz and Rachel Stege.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Georgia!! I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, family, & friends for everything they have done to help me get to this point! I can’t wait to be a Dawg!! ❤️?”

A Junior National qualifier, Hicks does her club swimming with YMCA of the Triangle Area and raced the three events at Juniors East in December. Last summer, she finaled in three events at Greensboro Sectionals before going on to earn gold in the 50m free, bronze in the 100m free, and take fifth in the 50m back at TYR Summer Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.33
  • 100 free – 51.01
  • 200 free – 1:54.89
  • 100 back – 56.63
  • 100 breast – 1:07.33
  • 100 fly – 58.52

Also competing for JO Sanderson High School, Hicks is a six-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. She finished third in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free as a junior while taking fourth in both of those events during her sophomore season. 

She has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far.

The Bulldogs finished fourth overall in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships, just 1.5 points behind Kentucly.
