Southern Methodist Receives Pair of Verbal Commitments from Kate Janzen, Olivia Lind

NEW COMMITS: Southern Methodist University has earned another set of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Edmond, Okla. native Kate Janzen and Olivia Lind of Katonah, N.Y.

Both talented swimmers will suit up for the Mustangs as a member of the class of 2025 along with Ashley Lugbill and Tiffanie Ruan.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m beyond stoked to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic careers at Southern Methodist University!  I would like to say thanks to my family, coaches, and friends for all their love and support!  Pony up!”

A versatile swimmer, Janzen trains year-round with King Marlin Swim Club and most recently competed at the Oklahoma Championships in February where she won six gold medals. At the KMSC Pro-Am Classic in December, she finished fourth in the 200 back, eighth in the 100 back, and ninth in the 50 back.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.75
  • 100 back – 55.46
  • 200 back – 2:00.56
  • 50 fly – 26.31
  • 100 fly – 55.99
  • 200 IM – 2:08.76

Last summer, she earned a best time at Jenks Sectionals before going on to earn bronze in the 800m free at the Oklahoma LCM Championships. Janzen has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts and is currently in her senior year at Epic Charter Schools.

OLIVIA LIND

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at SMU! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates and teachers for helping me get here. PONY UP!! ?⬆️”

Primarily a backstroker, Lind swims with Empire Swimming and recorded six best times at the MIT Invitational in December. Last summer, she was the runner-up in the 100m back and earned bronze in both the 50m and 200m back at the Florida International Championships.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 27.25
  • 100 back – 56.94
  • 200 back – 2:03.23

Also competing for John Jay High School, Lind is a three-time New York Federation Championship finalist. She finished 12th in the 100 back during her junior season after taking 26th in that event as a sophomore. She also placed 17th in her signature event in her rookie campaign.
