Six-Time Delaware State Champ Lainey Mullins Verbals to Virginia for 2023

NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has picked up a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2023 from Junior National qualifier Lainey Mullins of Hockessin, Delaware.

She will join Tess Howley, Cavan Gormsen and Maggie Schalow in Charlottesville as a member of the Hoos’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am SO grateful and excited to share my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia! I want to give a big thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for all of their support! Go Hoos!!??

Mullins does her club swimming with the Suburban Seahawks and placed 19th in the 200m fly in a lifetime best of 2:12.75 at the Phillips 66 International Team Trials. She earned bronze in the 500 free at the NCSA Championships in March before going on to win the 200 free and 200 fly at Middle Atlantic Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 400 IM – 4:16.30
  • 200 IM – 2:01.37
  • 500 free – 4:45.74
  • 200 free – 1:47.69
  • 100 free – 50.37
  • 50 free – 23.56
  • 200 fly – 1:57.50
  • 100 fly – 55.10

Currently a junior at Tower Hill School, Mullins is a six-time Delaware State Championship gold medalist. She won the 200/500 free in 2021 and 2022 while taking the top spot in the 100/200 free as a freshman.

Virginia is fresh off its second straight NCAA title, doing so in dominant fashion.
