So excited to finally reveal that I will be on the new @nbc competition show, Dancing with Myself! This was such an amazing experience and I got to meet such cool people and check one thing off my bucket list! The show premieres on May 31st at 10 pm EST so make sure you check it out for some wicked moves! #dancingwithmyself #dancingqueen

Schmidt, 24, has had a long career at the elite levels of American swimming. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., and graduate of the University of Michigan, she won gold in the 2015 Pan American Games in the women’s 800 freestyle. She also won that event at the 2015 World Junior Championships to go with a pair of silvers, and she’s medaled twice at the Swimming World Cup. She made the final in the 400, 800 and 1,500 freestyle at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials but fell shy of the final team in an area of particular strength for the American contingent.

Schmidt has long gotten attention for her pre-race routines. Dubbed the Dancing Queen, her behind-the-block prep for races involves her getting lost in music and rather famously dancing along to psych herself up.

Dancing with Myself will star Shakira, Nick Jonas and Liza Koshy. It will present, “a series of high-energy dance challenges.” Instead of being judged on their routines, a team of “of celebrity advisors are known as Creators, not Judges or Coaches” will demonstrate through “dynamic dance tutorials.” Schmidt is one of 12 contestants who will go through six themed rounds.

The show premieres Tuesday, May 31, after the premier of Season 17 of America’s Got Talent. The show runs every Tuesday at 10 p.m., through eight one-hour episodes.
