Sarasota YMCA Masters Reclaim 800 Free Relay World Record

The battle between Ventura County Masters and Sarasota YMCA Masters for ownership of the Masters world record in the men’s 800 free relay for the 240-279 age group went to a new level last weekend. Swimming at the Shark Tank Short Course Meters Meet, Sarasota took the record to a new level by breaking a big barrier.

The foursome of Jack Groselle, Rick Walker, Kevin McCormack and Steven Newman posted an 8:52.73 to obliterate the mark of 9:00.30 that Ventura had set last December.

Sarasota relay splits:
Groselle: 2:06.81
Walker: 2:18.50
McCormack: 2:17.08
Newman: 2:10.34

Before Ventura Masters nearly cracked the 9:00 barrier last year, Sarasota had owned the world record with a 9:02.15 from earlier in the year. This is the second world record of 2015 for Groselle and Walker, as they teamed up with Laura Groselle and Nancy Kryka for a world mark in the mixed 800 free relay in the 240-279 age group.

The Ventura County Masters 240+ freestyle relay team would like to congratulate the Sarasota team on a very fine swim. Nice job breaking 9:00 guys!

If we all have a good day, we might get lucky next month.
