Sarah Sjostrom Goes 53.44 In 100 Free At Giant Open; Tes Schouten Rewrites Dutch Record Books

Sarah Sjostrom Goes 53.44 In 100 Free At Giant Open; Tes Schouten Rewrites Dutch Record Books

Sarah Sjostrom, Maxime Grousset and Marrit Steenbergen delivered noteworthy performances at the 2023 Giant Open in Saint-Germain-En-Laye in western Paris.

Tes Schouten was also on record-breaking form in the 100 and 200m breaststroke.

The meet was the third of three over the past eight days following events in Marseille and Nice.

Sjostrom had soared to the top of the 50 fly rankings with a shuddering 25.25 before going 53.55 to take the 100 free at the Mediterranean Open in Marseille.

The Swede took 0.11 off that time in the 100 free on day one to go 53.44 ahead of Beryl Gastaldello (53.60) and Steenbergen (54.19).

Steenbergen enjoyed two trips to the top of the podium on day two in the 200 free (1:57.71) and 200IM (2:10.96).

Grousset was the only man inside 52secs as he set a PB of 51.72 in the 100 fly ahead of Szebasztian Szabo (52.89).

The pair replicated those placings in the 100 free with the Frenchman clocking 48.50 and the Hungarian 49.32.

Schouten lowered her own 100br Netherlands record to 1:05.92 with Charlotte Bonnet clocking a new French mark in 1:07.76.

That followed her 200br effort of 2:23.28 which eclipsed the mark of 2:23.67 she went at the Rotterdam Qualification Meet in December.

Her fellow Dutch swimmer Arno Kamminga also won the breaststroke double going 1:00.56 in the 100 and 2:11.41 in the 200.
