Santa Clara Futures Day Three: Close Finishes, Tight Races

Santa Clara Futures day three offered us many close races and tight finishes from some of the most talented young athletes in the western US. With one day left to go, the athletes will be battling not just the clock, but fatigue and exhaustion also. The meet will be held from August 2-5 in Santa Clara, Calif.

Santa Clara Futures Day 3 Finals – Results

Women’s 200 Fly

Tara Halsted of Dart Swimming took first with a 2:16.73. She dropped 2.39 seconds from her prelims seed time of 2:18.12 and moved up from her second place seed.

Olivia Grossklaus of Mesa Aquatics finished second at 2:16.16, finishing about a second ahead of the third place finisher. She dropped 1.62 seconds from her seed prelims times of 2:17.78, but lost her first place seed position to Halsted.

La Mirada’s Maelynn Lawrence came in third, holding her prelims seed position with a time of 2:17.14. She dropped 1.78 seconds from her prelims time of 2:18.92.

Men’s 200 Fly

Cristofer Gore of Life Time Northern Calif. took first with a time of 2:04.63, finishing about two seconds ahead of the rest of his heat. He dropped 1.97 seconds from his prelims time of 2:06.60 and moved up two spots from his third place seed.

Socal Aquatic’s Tonahauc Zinn took second with a time of 2:06.00, dropping .28 from his seed of 2:06.28. He held his prelims seed of second and finished a half second before the third place finisher.

Adityasth Wratsangka of Fusion Aquatics placed third with a time of 2:06.51, out touching first seed Alexander Gilchrist. Wratsangka took .47 off from his prelims time of 2:06.98 and moved up a place from his preliminary seeding of third.

Women’s 50 Free

Sarah Snyder of Palo Alto Stanford took first in the event with a time of 26.26, dropping .55 from her prelims time of 26.81. Snyder defended her first place seed while also touching .35 ahead of the rest of her heat.

Elizabeth Menzmer of Spare Time Aquatics places second with a 26.61, out touching third place finisher Colette Berkenfield by .13. Menzmer dropped .38 from her prelims time of 26.99, moving up two spots from her prior fourth place seed.

North Bay’s Berkenfield placed third with a 26.74, dropping .30 from her prelims time of 27.04. She moved up three spots from her prior seed of sixth and out touched the fourth place finisher by .02.

Men’s 50 Free

Miles Mackenzie of Tiger Aquatics took first in the event with a time of 23.13, dropping .58 from his prelims time of 23.71. Mackenzie moved up one spot from his prelims seed of second.

Also of Tiger Aquatics, Lane Goedhart finished second with a time of 23.60. Goedhart dropped .07 from his prelims time of 23.67, but dropped a place from his seed of first. He out touched third place finisher Keegan Bundy by .01.

The unattached Bundy finished third with a time of 23.61, only .01 slower than Goedhart. Bundy dropped .31 seconds from his prelims time of 23.92, moving up five places from his prior seed of eigth.

Women’s 200 Breast

13-year-old Zoey Zeller of Santa Clara Swim Club won the event with a 2:36.68, out touching both second place finisher Ana Adame and third place finisher Nada Bouraoui. Zeller dropped 2.17 seconds from her seed time of 2:38.85 and moved up five places from her sixth place seed.

Canyons Aquatic Club’s Adame placed second in a tight race with a time of 2.36.72. She dropped .58 from her prelims time of 2:37.30 and moved up one spot from her third place seed.

Bouraoui, also of Santa Clara, placed third with a time of 2:36.88, gaining .20 from her prelims time of 2:36.68. She dropped two places from her prior seed of first.

Men’s 200 Breast

Parker Macy of the Mission Viejo Nadadores won the event with a time of 2:21.63, dropping 2.27 seconds from his prelims time of 2:23.90. He moved up three spots from his prior seed of fourth.

Brett Champlin of the Hillsboro Swim Team placed second with a time of 2:22.42, out touching the third place finisher. He dropped 1.15 seconds from his prelims time of 2:23.57 and held his second place seed.

Tualatin Hills’ Marco Nosack finished third with a 2:22.56, dropping about two seconds from his prelims time of 2:24.48. He moved up two spots from his prior seed of fourth.

Women’s 100 Back

Skylar Dikeman of Tucson Ford Dealers won the event with a time of 1:04.25, dropping .79 from her prelims time of 1:05.04. She moved up two spots from her prior seed of third.

Boise YMCA Swim Team’s Eva Suggs placed second with a time of 1:04.51, out touching about half of her heat. Suggs dropped .88 from her prelims time of 1:05.39 and moved up four spots from her prelims seed of sixth.

Danielle Carter of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics placed third with a time of 1:04.60, gaining .38 seconds from her prelims time of 1:04.22. She moved down two spots from her prelims seed of first, but out touched fourth place finisher Emma Lepisova by .08.

Men’s 100 Back

Niles Biolley of Buenaventura Swim Club took first with a time of 57.02, dropping .59 from his prelims time of 57.61. Biolley held his prelims seed of first and finished over a second ahead of the rest of his heat.

Joseph Molinari of Palo Alto Stanford finished second in the event with a 58.33. He dropped .22 from his prelims time of 58.55 and moved up three spots from his prelims seed of fifth.

Boise YMCA’s Nathan Quarterman placed third with a time of 58.40, beating the fourth place finisher to the wall by .03. Quarterman gained .12 from his prelims time of 58.28 and dropped one place from his prelims seed of second.

Women’s 400 Free

Unattached Katelyn Crom took first in the event with a time of 4:19.84, winning her heat by about a second. Crom dropped 3.43 seconds from her prelims time of 4:23.37, moving up three spots from her fourth place prelims seed.

Ryan Falk of Tualatin Hills took second with a 4:20.77, out touching third place finisher Cathryn Salladin by .05. Falk dropped .90 from her prelims time of 4:21.67 and held her second place seed.

Salladin of the FAST Swim Team finished third with a 4:20.82, .05 beind Falk. Salladin gained .12 from her prelims time of 4:20.70 and dropped two places from her prior first place seed.

Men’s 400 Free

James Lovette of Palo Alto Stanford took first in the event with a time of 4:00.05, winning by about a half second. Lovette dropped 2.18 seconds from his prelims time of 4:02.68 and held his prelims seed of first.

Aidan Reagan of Tucson Ford Dealers placed second with a 4:01.06, dropping an incredible 4.43 seconds from his prelims time of 4:05.49. The 15-year-old moved up four spots from his prelims seed of sixth.

Wolverine Aquatics’ Daniel Ilin placed third with a time of 4:02.50. Ilin dropped 2.34 seconds from his seed time of 4.:04.84 and moved up two spots from his prior seed of fifth.

Prelims begin tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. PST with finals scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. PST.
