Reinstated Dartmouth Adds Lianne McCluskey as Assistant Coach

Lianne McCluskey was named to the Dartmouth coaching staff Friday as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams, the school announced.

McCluskey arrives in New Hampshire from Brandeis, where she was an assistant swim coach and aquatics director. The Judges’ 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving McCluskey to adapt to a new role.

“I am thrilled to welcome Lianne McCluskey to the woods,” head coach Jesse Moore said in a university statement. “Lianne’s expertise coaching at the club and collegiate level will launch our student-athletes to success. I love her age-group coaching experience because those fundamental skills we teach our youth are the very foundation of the more complex mechanics we teach our student-athletes.

“I knew from our very first conversation that she was the type of person born to mentor our swimmers and divers. Her zest, empathy, and compassion were not only felt by our student-athletes, but by former colleagues with whom she worked.”

McCluskey is part of the rebuilding of a program that was slated for discontinuation last summer but reinstated in the spring.

McCluskey served as a graduate assistant for two seasons at Smith. She also worked at the University of Texas’s Longhorn Swim Camp and competed classes at the NCAA Women’s Coaching Academy.

McCluskey was a Division III All-American at Denison before transferring to La Salle. She graduated in 2014 with a degree in communications and journalism. She earned her master’s degree in exercise and sports studies from Smith in 2020.
