Clinic Staff – 2020 Central States Swim Clinic

dave-durden-olympic-coach-cal-berkeleyDave will be the Head Men’s Olympic Coach this summer in Tokyo. Dave enters his 13th season as Head Men’s Coach at UC Berkeley. He has led the team to 4 NCAA titles & 6 runner up finishes. This past summer, Dave was Head Coach for the World Games. In ‘16, Dave was appointed Asst. Olympic Coach for Rio with Cal qualifying 6 individuals for the Rio Games. Adrian, Murphy, Ervin, Prenot, Shields & Pebley brought home 8 gold, 1 silver & 3 bronze medals. In ’16, Dave was voted USA Swimming & ASCA Coach of the Year. He has been named Pac12 Coach of the Year 8 times & NCAA Coach of the Year 5 times. In ’12, he coached 3 time Olympic Gold medalist & American record-holder, Nathan Adrian, and coached Anthony Ervin to an Olympic comeback in London. Dave was formerly the Head Coach at Maryland for 2 years & an Asst. Coach at Auburn for 3 years. He was Head Olympic Coach for Panama at the ’04 Games & ’03 Pan-Pac Games.

 

mike-parratto-coach-national-team-riptideMike is internationally renowned for his ability to challenge swimmers across all disciplines.He is a USA Swimming National Team Coach & Head Coach & leader of the Riptide staff with 40 years of coaching experience. He has positively impacted the lives & swimming careers of thousands of athletes across the country. Mike is best known for coaching the legendary 4 time Olympian Jenny Thompson. Currently he coaches phenom Regan Smith. Regan broke 2 World Records this past summer. Mike has been a coach for both Jr World Championships & PanPacific Championships. He was most recently named 2019 ASCA Coach of the Year, USA Swimming Coach of the Year & was inducted into the ASCA Hall of Fame. We are excited to have Mike as a presenter at our clinics.

 

sarah-dawson-coach-mission-viejo-nadadoresSarah has coached at Mission Viejo Nadadores for 11 years & served as the 11-12 division director. She was recognized as the SoCal LSC Age Group of the Year in ’18. She began her coaching career as an Age Group coach in ‘02 for CLASS Aquatics in Westlake, CA. She decided to attend Cal Poly for her M.S. in Physical Education & Sport Studies rather than pursue a career in biotechnology. While in graduate school, Sarah was Head Coach for San Luis Obispo HS Girl’s Swimming. In 2 years of high school coaching, she led 2 League Championship teams and had many individual athletes attend CIF. In ’06, Sarah became Senior & Head Age Group coach of the San Luis Obispo Seahawks. The swimmers thrived under her guidance & many achieved JO cuts and went on to Sectionals. In ’18, Sarah was a very well received speaker at the ASCA World Clinic, Napa Age Group Clinic & our ’19 Eastern States Clinic.

Always a favorite at our clinics, Jackie is an exercise physiologist with a Ph.D. in nutrition & has worked with USA Swimming advising the coaches, athletes, & sports medicine staff as to nutritional needs of athletes in training & competition. She has traveled with our national teams & is the nutritional consultant for the Colorado Rockies & the Cleveland Indians. She has co-authored Nutrition for Sport & Exercise & Training. Jackie teaches nutrition to swimmers at developmental camps & has developed materials geared directly for swimmers, coaches & parents. Jackie was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award at U of Colorado 3 times & ’19 President’s Council on Fitness Leadership Award.

 

 

josh-davis-swimmer-olympian-texasAs an undergraduate at Univ. of Texas, Josh was NCAA champion in the 200 Free & earned a total of 23 All America honors. In Atlanta ’96, Josh made history as the only man in any sport from any nation to win three gold medals: 400 FRelay, 800 FRelay & 400 MR. In Sydney ’00, Josh was captain of the team and won 2 silver medals: 400 & 800 relays. He also broke the American record in the 200 Free 3 times. Most recently, Josh has set masters records in freestyle and has added college coaching to his resume. In addition to teaching and racing for the last 15 years across America, Josh has been the head coach of Oklahoma Christian University since ’16. Be around him for just a little while and you will want to swim faster! Josh is a dynamic & informative speaker & extremely popular with the swimmers at the pool.Elizabeth-Beisel-swimmer-olympian-floridaElizabeth is everyone’s favorite Olympian at our clinics. Elizabeth made her first USA National Team when she was only 13 years old & for the last 10 years she has been representing the USA competing around the world. She was National Champion at Florida in her favorite events, the 400 IM & 200 Back. In her first Olympics ‘08, at only 15 years old, she was 4th in the 400 IM & 5th in the 200 back. In London ‘12, she did lifetime bests, silver in the 400IM & bronze in the 200 back. Elizabeth is known as one of the hardest working swimmers in the world & was elected captain & led the women’s team to one of their most successful Olympics ever in Rio ‘16. In Rio, she broke her finger in the warm up pool & didn’t get to the podium. She has a very outgoing personality & loves encouraging the next generation of swimmers to dream big and swim big. Elizabeth was recently a participant on the TV show Survivor!
