NEW COMMIT: Butler University has added a new commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Cotter Welch of Northville, Mich.

She will join Alani Hightower and Caroline Colombo as a member of the Bulldogs’ Class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely grateful to announce my commitment to study and swim at Butler University. When I stepped on campus I realized that Butler was the place for me. Their great athletic and academic programs will help me achieve all of my goals for the future. I want to thank my family, doctors, coaches, and everyone who helped me get to this point and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Go Bulldogs!!!”

Welch does her club swimming with Novi Sturgeons and most recently earned three best times at Indianapolis Sectionals. At the beginning of last year, she discovered that she was severely anemic but managed to recover over quarantine. In just one season, she has dropped six seconds in the 200 free and 12 in the 500 free.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:57.86
  • 500 free – 5:14.82
  • 100 back – 1:00.57
  • 200 back – 2:13.87

Welch is currently a senior at Mercy Catholic High School where she is team captain. She placed 12th in the 500 free and 16th in the 500 free at the Michigan DI State Championships in 2021 after taking third and seventh, respectively, in those events at the Oakland County Championships.
