NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has added a new addition to their Class of 2025 after earning a verbal commitment from Ortonville, Mich. native Michael Cooper.

He will arrive in Columbus at the start of the 2021-22 season along with Will Bansburg, Tim Kalin, Grafton Parlette, Alex Quach, Josh Bogniard, Karl Helmuth and Luke Paxton.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m very excited to announce that I am going to continue my academic and athletic career at The Ohio State University! I would like to thank my coaches for making me the swimmer I am today. I would also like to thank my family and friends for all the support along the way! Go bucks!”

An incredibly versatile swimmer, Cooper trains year-round with OLY Swimming and owns several Junior National standards. He most recently competed at the Michigan Open in February where he recorded six top-5 finishes.

  • 500 free – 4:30.58
  • 1000 free – 9:23.83
  • 1650 free – 15:47.44
  • 200 back – 1:50.68

Last summer, he had an incredible showing at NCSAs where he earned six new lifetime bests. He was the runner-up in the 400m IM and placed eighth in the 200m IM as well as 17th in the 200m breast.

He will add valuable IM and distance freestyle depth to the Buckeyes’ lineup next year. He would’ve placed in the C-final of the 400 IM at the 2020 Big Ten Championships and is just on the outskirt of scoring in the mile.
