NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has picked up their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Sanna Peterson of Richmond, Va.

She will suit up for the Buckeyes as a member of the Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I chose The Ohio State University because of their awesome coaching staff and swimmers! I could tell they care about their swimmers both in and out of the pool and value character and hard work! The girls on their team are super outgoing and genuine, which made me feel like I would really fit in! Their team is so supportive of each other and focused on their team goals, which is something I’m super pumped to be a part of! Can’t wait to be a member of Buckeye Nation! GO BUCKS!!!”

A talented freestyler and backstroker, Peterson does her club swimming with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics. She recently picked up six new best times at intrasquad meets throughout July and August. Before COVID-19 hit, she finished second in the 1000 free, third in the 500 free, and eighth in the 200 back at Virginia Seniors in March.

Last summer, she recorded five top-8 finishes at Virginia LCM Seniors which included a runner-up performance in the 800m free. Peterson then went on to race seven events at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.95
  • 500 free – 4:48.80
  • 1000 free – 9:49.84
  • 1650 free – 17:04.70
  • 200 back – 1:59.27
  • 100 back – 58.62
  • 400 IM – 4:25.76

Currently a junior at Deep Run High School, Peterson placed ninth in the 200 free at the Virginia Class 5 State Championships during her sophomore season. As a freshman, she won the 500 free and took sixth in the 100 back at the VHSL 5B Region Championships.

Even with just under two years to go before arriving in Columbus in the fall of 2022, Peterson will make a big impact in Ohio State’s freestyle group. She will have one year of overlap to train with current Buckeye sophomore Meredith Moellering.
