Night Four 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships: Ashby Qualifies for Worlds

Night four of the 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships was one that saw may records fall.  The women competed in the following events: 200 free, 100 fly, 50 back 200 breast and the 800 free relay. The men competed in the 200 IM, 50 back, 50 free and the 800 free relay. Daniel Hunter broke his own New Zealand Open Record in the 50 free. Erika Fairweather was within a development consideration time to qualify for World Championships and is a New Zealand 15 Years Age Record. Brad Ashby qualified for World Championships in the Men’s 200m IM. Taiko Torepe-Ormsby broke the New Zealand 15 years Age Record in the 50 back. Ciara Smith broke the New Zealand 18 Years Age Record in the Women’s 200m breast.

Women’s 200 Free

Erika Fairweather of Neptune Swim Club touched first with a time of 1:59.37. It was Fairweather’s second win of the meet after winning the 400 free on night three. In second was Carina Doyle of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:00.27. In third was Chelsey Edwards of Capital Swim Club with a time 2:02.07. Eve Thomas of Coast Swimming Club was fourth with a time of 2:02.60. In fifth was Gina McCarthy of Hillcrest Swim Club with a time of 2:03.17. Caitlin Deans of Neptune Swim Club with a time of 2:04.31. In seventh was Ali Galyer of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:04.45. In eighth was Ruby Heath of Capital Swim Club 2:04.69.

Men’s 200 IM

Bradlee Ashby of North Shore Swimming Club touched first with a time of 1:59.60 at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. Ashby was able to qualify for the World Championships in four weeks. In second was Luan Grobbelaar of Kiwi West Aquatics with a time of 2:02.69.  In third was Jonathan Rutter of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:03.13. Wilrich Coetzee of North Shore Swimming Club touched fourth with a time of 2:03.17. In fifth was Callum Prime of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:05.36. In sixth was Jeremy Tasker of North Canterbury Swim Club Inc with a time of 2:06.60.  Talon Lindquist of Kodiak KingFishers touched in seventh with a time of 2:08.22. In eighth was Jiahao Gong of Shanghai Swimming Team with a time of 2:10.82.

Women’s 100 Fly

Helena Gasson of Coast Swimming Club touched first with a time of 1:00.56 at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. In a tie for second was Olivia Collins of St Peter’s Western and Hannah Bates of Aquagym Swimming Club with a time of 1:01.38 . In third was Vanessa Ouwehand of Phoenix Aquatics with a time of 1:01.46. In fifth was Paige Schendelaar-Kemp of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 1:02.20.  Kiana Swain of Pukekohe Swimming Club touched sixth with a time of 1:02.54.  In seventh was Tori McTeigue of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 1:02.61. Rounding out the heat was Alice Waldow of United Swimming Club with a time of 1:02.67.

Men’s 50 Back

Andrew Jeffcoat of Pukekohe Swimming Club with a time of 25.36. In second was Kane Follows of Mt Eden Swimming with a time of 25.78. In third was Zac Dell of Pukekohe Swimming Club with a time of 25.92. In fourth was Jack Anderson of United Swimming Club with a time of 26.23. In fifth was Jason Churches of Parnell Swimming with a time 26.38. In sixth was Taiko Torepe-Ormsby of Wharenui Swim Club with a time of 26.43. In seventh was Da Luo of Shanghai Swimming Team with a time of 26.55. In eighth was Cameron Gray of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 26.57.

Women’s 50 Back

Gina Galloway of North Shore Swimming Club touched first with a time of 28.88. In second was Gabrielle Fa’amausili of United Swimming Club with a time of 29.00. In a tie for third was Karolina Hajkova and Emma Godwin of Heretaunga Sundevils with a time of 29.20. In fifth was Paige Flynn of St Peter’s Swimming Club with a time of 29.40. In sixth was Cassie Wright of Qeii Swim Club with a time of 29.43. In seventh was Imogen Rodgers of Parnell Swimming with a time of 29.81. In eighth was Kyla Alexander of United Swimming Club with a time of 29.84.

Men’s 50 free

Daniel Hunter of Howick Pakuranga touched with a winning time of 22.27 at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. In second was Michael Pickett of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 22.34. In third was Corey Main of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 22.63. In fourth was Carter Swift of Hawera Swimming Club with a time of 22.97.  Luke Gebbie of Philippine Swimming was fifth with a time of 23.00. In sixth was Tyron Henry of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 23.02. In seventh was Bayley Main of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 23.16. In eighth was ‘aukai Lileikis of Hawaiian Swimming with a time of 23.41.

Women’s 200 Breast

In first was Ciara Smith of Northwave Swim Club with a time of 2:32.92.  In second was Melissa Cowen of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:34.54. In third was Phoebe Harris of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 2:34.83. Lea Muellner of Raumati Swimming Club was fourth with a time of 2:36.36.  In fifth was Mikayla Dance of United Swimming Club with a time of 2:36.77In sixth was Bronagh Ryan of Capital Swim Club with a time of 2:39.52.  In seventh was Lucy Gordon of Jasi Swim Club with a time of 2:43.48.  In eighth was Madison Wills of Kiwi Association with a time 2:43.71.

Men’s 800 Free Relay

In first was North Shore Swimming Club with a team of Jonathan Rutter, Callum Prime, Bradlee Ashby and Samuel Poching with a time of 7:38.69. In second was Capital Swim Club with a time of 4:45.59 and in third was Pukekohe Swimming Club with a time of 7:56.90.

Women’s 800 Free Relay

In first was North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 8:30.51. Their team consisted of Monique King, Zoe Crawford, Andie Quirke and Carina Doyle. In second was Capital Swim Club with a time of 8:37.11 and third was St. Paul’s Swimming Club with a time of 8:49.13.
