Moravian College announced Wednesday that it will add men’s and women’s swimming as part of its slate of varsity sports for the 2021-22 season.

Moravian, a Division III college in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with an enrollment of just over 2,000 students, will now offer 22 sports. It will compete in the Landmark Conference in 2021-22 against schools like Catholic, Scranton and Drew.

The school does not have a pool but will train at Bethlehem Liberty High School.

“Everyone at Moravian is thrilled to add men’s and women’s swimming to the current roster of NCAA sports offered to our student-athletes,” said Moravian President Byron Grigsby in a university release. “We know the Landmark is a very competitive conference and we can’t wait to get going.”

The search for a coach will begin in April, hoping to have someone in place by the summer to spend the following academic year recruiting and building the program. That includes recruiting through the current student body.

“It is an exciting time for Moravian Athletics,” Director of Athletics & Recreation Mary Beth Spirk said. “The addition of swimming to our department will add to our already strong program. We are grateful to have the opportunity to train at Liberty High School and look forward to competing in the Landmark Conference for swimming.”
