Meg Sisson French has been named as the Mary Frances Wagley ’47 head coach for MIT men’s and women’s swimming and diving and a physical education and wellness instructor. French comes to MIT from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, Calif.

“I am very excited to welcome Meg Sisson French to MIT as she enthusiastically takes on the role of men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach and physical education and wellness instructor,” said Barb Bolich, MIT associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator. “Meg brings a wealth of experience in coaching and teaching at both Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Springfield College. She is a successful coach and committed educator whose valuable contributions will be felt on day one.”

At Pomona-Pitzer, Sisson French served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator from 2017-2019, as well as the assistant coach from 2015-17. In addition, she was the interim head coach in the fall semester of 2016 and has been the summer swim director at Pomona College from 2016 to present.

“I am honored and excited to join the MIT community as the men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach,” said Meg Sisson French. “I would like to thank Julie Soriero, Katie Hoppe and the entire search committee for this incredible opportunity. MIT is an outstanding and unique institution. I look forward to working with the incredibly talented and dedicated student-athletes, building upon the team’s past success and serving as an instructor within the physical education and wellness department.”

In her role as the associate head coach, Sisson French assisted in coaching five SCIAC Conference Championship teams and had three student-athletes post top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship. She initiated and organized the recruiting process for the men’s and women’s teams while also instructing undergraduate level physical education at Pomona College and faculty and staff wellness classes.

She began her collegiate coaching career at Springfield College as a volunteer assistant coach in the 2012-13 season and as a graduate assistant at Springfield from 2013-2015. Earning her Master of Social Work in 2015, Sisson French also graduated with her Bachelor of Science in applied sociology from Springfield in 2012 and was a four-year member of the women’s swimming and diving team that captured the 2009 and 2010 NEWMAC Championships.
