Madeline Banic Joins Missouri Swimming as Assistant Coach

Madeline Banic, a National Champion relay swimmer and 12-time All-America selection, joined the University of Missouri swimming and diving staff in an assistant coach role, Head Coach Andrew Grevers announced.

Banic spent the 2022-23 as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, Tennessee.

“I am thrilled to have Maddy join our staff and can’t wait to see the fresh perspectives and energy she will bring to our team,” Grevers said. “Her skills and experience will be an excellent asset to our organization, and I’m excited to see Maddy flourish in her new role.”

“I’m thrilled and honored to be joining the Mizzou family as an assistant coach,” Banic said. “A tremendous thank you to Andrew Grevers for giving me this amazing opportunity in my coaching career. The culture cultivated in Mizzou athletics under Desireé Reed-Francois and Rachel Blunt is one of the best in the nation, and I thank them for welcoming me into the pursuit of competitive excellence. I’d like to thank Matt Kredich for being my mentor over the past eight years and molding me into the coach I am today. I look forward to joining the Mizzou Swim & Dive staff and team as we aim to make this the best year yet in and out of the pool.”

During the 2022-23 campaign, Banic helped lead the Lady Vols to a second-place finish at the Southeastern Conference Championship and a Top 10 placing at the NCAA Women’s Championship (eighth). The men’s team finished third at the conference meet and seventh at the NCAA Championship. It marked the first time both programs earned Top 10 placings at the NCAA meet in the same season.

She swam professionally at the international level for LA Current (2020), Energy Standard (2021-22) and Tennessee Elite in the International Swimming League, specializing in the butterfly events.

Banic closed out a standout collegiate career in 2019, winning a national championship as a member of the Lady Vols’ 200-medley relay squad with a program-record time of 1:34.10. Throughout her decorated career (2015-19), she earned All-America status 12 times was part of Tennessee’s 200 free relay lineup that posted finishes of second, third and sixth nationally.

At the SEC Championships, the four-time first team All-SEC honoree accumulated 16 medals, including nine golds. During the 2017 conference championships, Banic won gold in the 50 free with a then-school-record time 21.54, which ranks second in program history. She also ranks fourth in the UT record books in the 100 fly (51.19) and is a member of 12 different relay lineups that rank inside the top 10 for Tennessee.

The Midlothian, Virginia, native earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from UT in 2019.
