Junior National Champion Tim Connery De-Commits from Michigan, Sends Verbal to Texas

NEW COMMIT: After originally committing to the University of Michigan, Tim Connery has changed his verbal commitment to the University of Texas for the fall of 2021.

The Davidson, N.C. will arrive in Austin as a member of the Longhorns’ class of 2025 along with Kayde Cross, Marko Vujosevi, Nathan QuartermanLuke Hobson and Anthony Grimm.

Regarding his decision, he said:

“After further consideration, I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Texas! Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way. Hook em??”

A jack-of-all-trades, Connery was named to the 2019-20 USA Swimming National Junior Team for his stellar performances this summer. Last summer, he won the 200m IM at Junior Nationals where he also took fifth in the 100m free and 100m back and sixth in the 100m breast en route to winning the High Point Award.

He currently owns a pair of 2020 Olympic Trials cuts and a slew of additional U.S. Open and Summer Juniors standards.

Connery does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and finaled in a pair of events at Phillips 66 Nationals in 2018 before going on to place eighth in the 200m IM at Junior Nationals that same summer. Over the past two years he is a nine-time Sectional finalist, grabbing gold in the 200 IM last year.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.42
  • 100 free – 44.18
  • 200 free – 1:34.77
  • 100 back – 47.24
  • 100 breast – 53.19
  • 200 breast – 1:57.16
  • 100 fly – 46.73
  • 200 IM – 1:44.05
  • 400 IM – 3:53.90

A current senior at Christ the King Catholic High School, Connery is a five-time North Carolina 1A/2A State Championship finalist. He won the 100 free and 100 breast as a junior while winning the 50 free during his sophomore season and notching victories in the 100 back and 200 IM during his freshman year.

The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is the state record holder in both the 100 back and 200 IM as well.
