Ivy League Men’s Champs: Harvard Wins Fourth Straight Title

Harvard won their fourth straight team title, and 27th in program history.

The fourth and final night of the Ivy League men’s swimming and diving championships from the campus of Harvard University. Harvard leads the team standings heading into the final, with Princeton within striking distance. A few swimmers will be challenging for their third individual titles. Events tonight are the 1650 freestyle timed final, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay.

Men’s 1650 Freestyle – Timed Final

Dylan Porges of Princeton won his first career Ivy League title, taking the gold in 15:07.07. He beat out fellow freshman, Cole Kuster of Harvard, who finished in a time 0f 15:10.36. William Kamps of Penn was just behind in 15:10.96 for third.

Men’s 200 Backstroke

Harvard freshman Gunner Grant took the 200 back title, swimming a 1:41.49 to grab gold for the Crimson. Paige daCosta took second for Cornell in 1:43.55, and Coley Sullivan for Brown finished third in 1:44.11.

Baptiste Leger grabbed the B final win in 1:44.81. Cornell’s Ricardo Martinez (1:47.17) won the C final.

Men’s 100 Freestyle

50 free champion Albert Gwo claimed the 100 freestyle title for Columbia, swimming a 43.08. Cody Cline from Brown was close behind for second (43.22) followed by Yale freshman Joseph Page (43.24). All eight A-finalists were within one second of each other.

200 free champion Corban Rawls won the B final for Harvard (44.12), with Yale’s Michael Blank (44.76) taking the C final.

Men’s 200 Breaststroke

Princeton’s Derek Cox took the win the 200 breast, swimming a 1:55.70 to top the field. Harvard’s Jared Simpson (1:57.24) and Daniel Chang (1:57.70) rounded out the podium. Columbia’s Nianguo Liu, who originally touched second, was disqualified.

Ryan Brown of Cornell won the B final in a swift 1:57.30. Columbia’s Michael Chang (1:59.47) took a tightly-contested C final.

Men’s 200 Butterfly

Raunak Khosla won his third title of the meet, taking the 200 fly in a time just off of his own meet record (1:42.43). It was not without contest, as Jacob Johnson of Harvard was close behind in 1:43.07, and Dartmouth’s Connor LaMastra finished third in 1:43.47.

Yale freshman Connor Lee 1:45.14 won the B final, and Penn sophomore Jack Loveless won the C final (1:50.76).

Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay

The Yale foursome of Page (43.30), Philippe Marcoux (42.72), Lee (43.76), and Henry Gaissert (42.47) dominated the 400 free relay to win by over 1.5 seconds in a time of 2:52.25. Finishing in the runner-up position was Columbia (2:53.97) with Harvard taking third (2:54.44). Fourth place went to Brown, followed by Cornell, Princeton, Penn, and Dartmouth to round out the field.
