India’s National Junior Record Holder Vedaant Madhavan Commits to Virginia Tech

NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has received a new verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Vedaant Madhavan of Mumbai, India.

He will join Daniil Pancerevas and Brendan Whitfield as a member of the Hokies’ Class of 2027.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to Virginia Tech. It has always been my dream college so I am absolutely thrilled to continue my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, teachers, teammates, friends, an especially my coaches for all of their support. Can’t wait to be a part of the family, Go Hokies!”

Madhavan had a great summer in 2022, breaking India’s national junior record in the 1500m free at the 48th India Junior National Championships. His winning time of 16:01.73 shattered the previous mark of 16:06.43 set by Advait Page in 2017.

He also raced the 50m and 100m free at the 8th FINA World Junior Championships this past summer. Back in April, he earned gold in the 800m free and silver in the 1500m free at the Danish Open.

200m free – 1:54.02
400m free – 4:04.25
800m free – 8:17.28
1500m free – 16:01.73

In SCY, those times convert to:

100 free – 45.50
200 free – 1:39.76
500 free – 4:32.33
1000 free – 9:14.46
1650 free – 15:37.68

His father, R Madhavan, is a prominent Indian actor, screenwriter, director and producer.

Under head coach Sergio Lopez, the Hokies finished third overall in the team standings at the 2022 ACC Championships and 11th at the NCAA Championships.
