Indiana Hoosiers Pick Up Verbals from Luke Barr, Sean Swift for 2021-22 Season

NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has received a pair of verbal commitments for their growing class of 2025 from Luke Barr and Sean Swift who will join Josh Matheny, Lucas Piunti, and Henry Bethel in Bloomington in the fall of 2021.

Both swimmers will add valuable depth to the Hoosiers’ lineup when suit up at the start of the 2021-22 season. Under head coach Ray Looze, Indiana is coming off their second-straight third-place finish at the men’s 2019 NCAA Championships after securing their third-consecutive Big Ten title.

Arguably one of the most sought-out recruits in the class, Barr swims year-round with Sarpy County Swim Club and owns the Olympic Trials cut in the 100m back with five additional U.S. Open standards. The Papillion, Neb. native finished sixth in the 100m back at Junior Nationals this past summer after registering six top-6 finishes at Jenks Sectionals. Last winter, he placed 10th in the 100 breast at Juniors West before going on to win the 100 breast at Columbia Sectionals.

A current junior at Papillion-La Vista Senior High School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is already a four-time Nebraska State Championship finalist. He earned gold in the 100 breast and 200 breast during his sophomore season while racing to third and fifth, respectively, in those events as a freshman.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to Indiana University! This was the biggest decision of my life. I have learned a lot and met a lot of great people during the recruiting process. I would like to give a huge thanks to my parents, who also happen to be my coaches. I am looking forward to working with the incredible coaching staff at Indiana!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 49.48 (56.53 LCM)
  • 200 back – 1:51.30
  • 200 IM – 1:47.91
  • 50 free – 20.17
  • 100 free – 44.72
  • 100 breast – 54.50
  • 200 breast – 1:59.18
  • 100 fly – 50.51

SEAN SWIFT

Hailing from Carmichael, Calif., Swift does his club swimming with Sierra Marlins Swim Team and owns four Junior National cuts. He raced three events at Junior Nationals in August and took the top spot in the 400 IM at Far Westerns in April. Last short course season, he earned a pair of best times at Juniors West and placed ninth in the 200 breast at Carlsbad Sectionals.

Also competing for Rio Americano High School, Swift finished 12th in the 100 breast and 13th in the 200 IM as a sophomore at the CIF State Championships. He’s also a four-time finalist at the CIF San Joaquin Section meet, most recently taking third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 breast in 2019.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very exited to continue my academic & athletic career at Indiana university I chose Indiana because everyone from the coaches to the swimmers made me feel at home. Their professionalism & dedication to their athletes success is overwhelming. I look forward to learning how to become a great Hoosier!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.68
  • 200 breast – 2:02.38
  • 200 IM – 1:50.33
  • 400 IM – 4:00.35

You don’t list Barr’s best backstroke times yet the article mentions him having Trials cut in back, etc?
