Hali Flickinger continued the momentum that Bob Bowman’s Arizona State group has shown this weekend in Indianapolis as she won the 400 IM on Friday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series with a 4:37.73. She was just off her own season best of 4:37.5 but she still has the second fastest time in the nation this year in the 400 IM as she was well in front of 2018 national champ Ally McHugh (4:40.89), who was hardly a factor in this race.

Flickinger on the success of Sun Devil Swimming today: “It’s so fun. I’m just extremely grateful to be a part of this team. Just one person does something, and you want to do your part, I’m just having so much fun!”

McHugh was five seconds behind Flickinger at the halfway point as she closed to within two seconds at the 300, but it was not enough as she swam slower than her 4:39.1 season best from earlier this year.

Hali Flickinger is ranked fifth in the world for 2021 with her season best.

Leah Smith was the second seed from this morning but scratched to focus on the 200 free.

Michigan’s Kathryn Ackerman was third at 4:44.09 ahead of Emma Barksdale (4:45.39).
