Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Breaks 400 Free Relay Pennsylvania High School State Record

Men’s Meet

In the 100 freestyle, Salisbury’s Mahlon Reihman won the event with a 45.58. Touching the wall in a 46.03 for the silver was Allentown’s Gabe Castano and in third place was Matthew Kwalick from Quaker Valley with a 47.16.

Manheim Central’s Matthew Daniel went a 4:32.57 for the gold in the 500 freestyle. Kevin Basch of Pottsgrove was second with a 4:34.79 and in third place with a 4:37.82 was Lower Moreland’s Connor Killion.

Austin Wilson won the 100 backstroke with a 49.18 for Grove City. Wyomissing’s Nathan Elzer took the silver with a 51.65 and for the bronze Owen Robinson of Calvary Christian went a 51.76.

In the 100 breaststroke, Jonah Crawford went a 58.16 for first place on the podium. In a close second place was Quaker Valley’s Kyle Hrabovsky with a 58.19 and the bronze medal went to Jarod Anderson with a 58.58 for Big Spring.

Grove City won the 400 free relay with a 3:10.08 and their team of Marcus Swartfager (47.30), Ben McKnight (48.69), Devin Reynolds (48.96) and Wilson (45.13). Trinity took silver (3:11.85) with Zack Gallagher (50.09), Andy Snyder (47.78), Lucas Haywood (47.57) and Jordan Wyant (46.41). Quaker Valley finished third in the time of 3:14.87 and the squad of Kwalick (47.15), Hrabovsky (49.56), Evan Ragoowansi (51.02) and Harry Harkins (47.14).

Women’s Meet

Geibel Catholic’s Emily Zimcosky won the women’s 100 freestyle with a 49.96. In second place was Hannah Blaser Gwynedd Mercy Academy with a 50.60 and with a 50.70 was Taylor Petrak of Ellwood City for bronze.

In the 500 free Bailey Bonnett of Highlands took gold with a 4:52.00. Gwynedd Mercy Academy Stephanie Szekely went a 4:56.05 for the silver and in a close third place was Hannah Schlegel of Twin Valley with a 4:56.12.

Allie Szekely of Gwynedd Mercy Academy won the women’s 100 backstroke in the time of 53.93. Emily Cornell of Villa Maria Academy came in second place with a 55.27 and in third with the time of 57.60 was St. Joseph’s Sabrina Bowman.

In the 100 breastroke Abby German of Fairview clocked in at a 1:02.48 for first place on the podium. Emily Glinecke of Pottsgrove was right behind with a 1:02.55 for silver and finishing third was Brooke Zukowski of Knoch (1:03.13).

Gwynedd Mercy Academy won the women’s 400 freestyle relay with their team of Hannah Blaser (51.42), Annie O’Dare (53.05), S. Szekely (52.39) and A. Szekely (50.83). They finished in a 3:27.69, taking gold and breaking the previous PIAA record of 3:28.90. Shady Side Academy came in second (3:33.01) with Ashley Azzarello (53.56), Caroline Colville (54.23), Meredith Cummings (53.29) and Lindsay Grune (51.93). Villa Maria Academy was third (3:35.86) with Nina Smith (54.25), Grace Carey (54.28), Sammy Murphy (53.58) and Kaitlyn Agger (53.75).
