Gregg Troy Joins Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast; Discusses Coaching Caeleb Dressel

One of the big pieces of news last week was the announcement by Caeleb Dressel that he was switching coaches from longtime mentor and former University of Florida coach Gregg Troy to the group headed by Anthony Nesty. On the heels of that revelation, Troy appeared on the Inside with Brett Hawke Podcast to discuss his work with Dressel, among other topics. The eponymous podcast, hosted by the two-time Australian Olympian, has attracted many of the biggest names in the sport.

During their discussion, Hawke and Troy reviewed the relationship between Troy and Dressel, which produced spectacular results. At this past summer’s Olympic Games, Dressel’s work with Troy led to five gold medals, including a sweep of the sprint-freestyle events and a world record in the 100 butterfly. Dressel and Troy have long enjoyed a tight-knit relationship, which Troy mentioned would continue well into the future.

With Troy’s guidance, Dressel’s three solo gold medals at the Tokyo Games were complemented by relay triumphs in the 400 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay. The medley relay set a world record with Dressel handling the butterfly leg.

An interesting segment of the interview focused on recent struggles by Troy to get adequate pool time for training. The discussion shed light on a topic that is not often considered by the public, but can be an issue due to facility demands and other factors.
