Greensboro Aquatic Center has been selected to host the 2020 USA Diving Winter National Championships from December 15-20, 2020, in Greensboro, N.C.

The Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) is making sure to make the event as safe and healthy as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“By installing the latest state-of-the-art equipment to improve air quality and mitigate transmission of harmful pathogens, we are providing the safest possible environment for competitors, coaches, officials, staff and spectators,” said GAC manager Susan Braman.

Earlier this month, a Global Plasma Solutions (GPS) cold plasma bipolar ionization system was installed in the Greensboro Aquatic Center’s new fourth pool. The system works in conjunction with the GAC’s previously installed Paddock Evacuator air filtration system to deliver clean indoor air that is safe and healthy by reducing chloramines and eliminating airborne particulates, odors and pathogens. This GPS system will be installed in the GAC’s main competition pool the week of August 31. GPS systems using similar technology have been installed in over 150,000 locations worldwide including The White House as well as hospitals and healthcare facilities and numerous colleges, universities and public schools.

In addition to installing the GPS system, the GAC recently enhanced the venue’s overall cleanliness by removing carpeting and adding epoxy flooring (photos below) to the lobby, concourse and portions of the locker rooms and restrooms. The flooring, manufactured by Stonhard, an industry leader in seamless floors, is a durable, easy to clean, slip-resistant and stain-resistant epoxy commonly used in hospitals and medical facilities.

It’s first championship meet will be the 2020 USA Diving Winter National Championships.

“We are excited to return to national competition this winter in Greensboro,” said USA Diving High Performance Director Dan Laak. “The Greensboro Aquatic Center is a world-class facility and we cannot wait to showcase our nation’s best divers as they compete to represent Team USA at the FINA World Cup and beyond.”

This event will serve as a selection event for the FINA World Cup and will bring nearly 150 of the nation’s best divers to Greensboro, who also hosted this event in 2012 and 2017, as they compete for 10 national titles. Additionally, the winter nationals will be a selection event to determine which divers the United States sends to the 2021 FINA World Cup, which is the final opportunity to qualify quota spots for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
