Grateful To Be Back in Egypt, Farida Osman on Two-Week Quarantine

Egyptian Olympic swimmer Farida Osman is grateful to be back in her home county, where she is on a two-week quarantine after traveling from the United States.

Osman, who trains at Virginia Tech under Sergio Lopez Miro at Pinnacle Racing, was among 275 Egyptian nationals brought back to the country last week during the coronavirus pandemic. As a precautionary measure, she’ll be self-isolating for the next two weeks at Marsa Alam Airport. She expressed gratitude to the Egyptian government for bringing athletes abroad back and showed her thanks by announcing via Twitter a donation to the Tahya Misr Fund that will help pay for quarantine costs.

“I want to tell you that the quarantine procedures are very important, and all of those responsible for it are very helpful to us. I thank them for their great effort and interest in us,” Osman tweeted.

Osman was born in Indianapolis but raised in Cairo before a stellar career at the University of California. The 25-year-old graduated as the school’s record-holder in the 50 freestyle and won the 2017 NCAA Championship in the 100 butterfly. She was also part of relays that set four school records and won five NCAA titles. Osman was named the 2017 Swimming World African Female Swimmer of the Year.

Farida Osman competed at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, making the 100 fly semifinals in the latter. She won bronze medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships in the 50 butterfly, among a slew of continental and international championships medals.
