NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Gillian Tu of Issaquah, Washington, has verbally committed* to Brown University and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2023.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very honored to announce my verbal commitment to the application process at Brown University! I am extremely grateful to my family, coaches, and friends for their endless support. I can’t wait to join the BWSD family and be a part of this amazing team! #GoBRUNO”

Tu trains year-round with Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club and won the 100 breast at Western Zone Seniors back in the spring, also taking second in the 100 free. She also finished sixth in the 100 breast at Juniors West last winter and placed eighth in the 100m breast at Santa Clarita Futures in Summer 2021.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.14
  • 100 free – 50.42
  • 50 breast – 27.76
  • 100 breast – 1:00.85
  • 200 breast – 2:20.09
  • 50 fly – 26.13
  • 100 fly – 57.61

A rising senior at Issaquah High School, Tu won the 50 free and took second in the 100 breast at the 2021 Washington 4A State Championships. She finished fifth and second, respectively, in those events during her freshman campaign.

Tu is a huge pickup for the Bears, as she would’ve won the 100 breast at the 2022 Ivy League Championships. She also would’ve scored in the 50 free and 100 free B-finals.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
