Georgia State Champion Sebastien Sergile Verbally Commits to Virginia for 2022

NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has received a big verbal commitment for its growing Class of 2026 from Olympic Trials qualifier Sebastien Sergile of Alpharetta, Georgia.

He will join Will Thompson and Simon Lins in Charlottesville at the start of the 2022-23 season.

His father, Alain, represented Haiti at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia! Thanks to all my coaches, family, and friends who have helped me through the process. GO HOOS!!!”

Sergile does his club swimming with SwimAtlanta and finished third in the 200m fly at Wave 1 of Olympic Trials this past summer. He also posted five top-6 finishes at Georgia Long Course Seniors before going on to earn bronze in the 200m fly at the Speedo Summer East Championships.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.66
  • 100 free – 44.31
  • 200 free – 1:35.13
  • 500 free – 4:23.30
  • 1000 free – 9:21.28
  • 1650 free – 15:32.55
  • 200 back – 1:46.98
  • 200 fly – 1:44.05
  • 200 IM – 1:47.71
  • 400 IM – 3:49.25

Currently a junior at Centennial High School, Sergile is already a four-time individual Georgia 6A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 200/500 free as a sophomore while taking second in both of those events during his freshman season.

Under head coach Todd DeSorbo, the Cavaliers finished fourth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
