NEW COMMIT: The United States Military Academy at West Point has received a verbal commitment for Fall 2023 from Futures qualifier Sophia Valenzuela of Humble, Texas.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. A big thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates who have supported me and helped me get to where I am today! GO ARMY!!”

Valenzuela does her club swimming at Blue Tide Aquatics and most recently earned a best time at Austin Sectionals. Back in December, she achieved three personal bests at the GU Southern Senior Championships where she swam away with bronze in the 100 free.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.97
  • 100 free – 52.28
  • 200 free – 1:53.12
  • 100 back – 56.69
  • 100 fly – 56.88

A rising senior at Summer Creek High School, Valenzuela placed 10th in the 50 free at the 2022 Texas 6A State Championships. The week prior, she was the runner-up in both the 50 free and 100 fly at the UIL Region 6A Championships.

Valenzuela would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 back at the 2022 Patriot League Championships where Army finished third overall in the team standings.
