NEW COMMIT: Colorado State University has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Futures qualifier Leigh O’Connor of Clermont, Fla.

She will join Ashlyn Hembree of Richmond, Texas, as a member of the Rams’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m over the moon to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Colorado State University! Thank you so, so much to my family, friends, and coaches for all the endless love and support. #gorams”

A sprinter, O’Connor trains with South Lake Aquatic Club and posted four top-16 finishes at the Florida North Championships in March after notching four lifetime bests at the Florida Virtual Championships in December. In August 2019, she raced three events at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 Free – 23.94
  • 100 Free – 52.50
  • 50 Fly – 25.73
  • 100 Fly – 56.57
  • 200 Fly – 2:11.58
  • 200 IM – 2:12.82

A rising senior at East Ridge High School, O’Connor is a five-time Florida 4A State Championship finalist. She raced to 10th in the 50 free and 11th in the 100 fly as a junior while taking 14th in the former event during her sophomore season.

The Rams are bringing in Erin DawsonMaya WhiteEmily Chorpening and Katie McClelland this fall, so O’Connor will have two years of overlap with them.

Under head coach Chris Woodard, Colorado State finished fifth at the 2021 Mountain West Championships.
