NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier James Don of Closter, N.J. has announced his verbal commitment to the United States Military Academy and will arrive on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season.

He will join Jackson Pogue and Ian Shahan in West Point as a member of Army’s Class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, family, and friends. #beatnavy”

A talented distance freestyler, Don does his club swimming with Scarlet Aquatics and earned a best time at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville back in January. Last summer, he registered five top-10 finishes at Rutgers Sectionals before going on to win the 800m free at the New Jersey Junior Olympics.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:42.08
  • 500 free – 4:30.53
  • 1000 free – 9:14.20
  • 1650 free – 15:29.97

Don will add valuable distance freestyle depth when he suits up for Army in the fall of 2021 as his best times already rank near the top of their lineup. Under head coach Brandt Nigro, the Black Knights finished second in the team standings at the 2020 Patriot League Championships.
