Florida State Seminoles Score Verbal Commitment from Cali Sprinter Des Lewis

NEW COMMIT: Florida State University has added a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from sprint freestyler Destany “Des” Lewis of Grand Terrace, Calif.

She will join Brooke Arnold, Maddy HugginsJenny BirdAlexandra DicksElla Dyjak and Rachel Moran in Tallahassee as a member of the Seminoles’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“In case you didn’t NOLE, I committed!! I am absolutely stoked to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Florida State University! I would like to thank my friends, family, coaches, and teammates for their endless support, and God for leading me to the school of my dreams! I am so extremely blessed to be apart of the Seminole family! ?”

Lewis does her club swimming with Socal Aquatics Association and placed 16th in the 50 free at East Los Angeles Sectionals in December. Last summer, she was the runner-up in the 50m free at the FAST Junior Olympics before going on to take 16th in her signature event at Mount Hood Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.61
  • 100 free – 52.74
  • 50 back – 26.97
  • 100 back – 59.65

Also competing for Grand Terrace High School, Lewis has raced the 50 free at the CIF State Championships during both her freshman and sophomore seasons. In 2019, she earned silver in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 free at the CIF Southern D4 Section Championships while taking second in both of those events in 2018.

Under head coach Neal Studd, Florida State finished seventh at the 2020 ACC Championships.
