Femke Hemskerk has announced she has tested positive for COVID-19.

The result came before Heemskerk headed to Budapest for the International Swimming League (ISL) season.

Unfortunately I recently tested positive for COVID-19. I’m NOT sick and have NO symptoms at all. I have been so careful, so it was quite a shock to be honest. I’m in quarantine and following the rules of the Dutch CDC. Hope I can still join the @iswimleague and my team @energystandard when this is all possible again. ❤️?”

Hemskerk is a Dutch sprinter on Energy Standard, contributing hugely in the Skins races last year for the team.

According to the ISL rules,  participants area required to take two COVID-19 tests at least 48 hours apart, within five days of their departure for Budapest.

Femke Heemskerk will now have to take two follow-up tests to rule out a possible false positive. If further tests are positive, she will then have to quarantine for 14 days before heading to Budapest, according to the ISL protocols.
