Evgeniia Chikunova set a new European 200m breaststroke short-course record of 2:14.70 at the Solidarity Games in Kazan.

Chikunova, who turned 18 eight days ago, split 31.03/1:05.60/1:40.11 before a final 50 of 34.59 (17.24/17.35) saw her slice 0.51 from Rikke Moller Pedersen‘s 2013 record of 2:15.21.

The Russian moved to within 0.13 of Rebecca Soni‘s world record of 2:14.57 from December 2009 at the tailend of the shiny-suit era.

It was the second European mark in as many days after Maria Kameneva matched Kira Toussaint‘s 50 back time of 25.60 on Thursday.

Kliment Kolesnikov set a 50 back world record of 22.11 on Wednesday and on Friday won the 100 free in 45.66.

Russia’s athletes and officials were banned from LEN events in March following the invasion of Ukraine.
