Stanford ended the 2020 Pac-12 Championships with another win, extending their reign to four consecutive years. Now, Erin Voss and the Cardinal have their sights set on an NCAA four-peat.

Stanford coach Greg Meehan has been preparing his swimmers all season to build up their speed in preparation for NCAAs, and feels that this meet shows a good incline for the girls.

“It’s a step in the progression for us,” Meehan told Swimming World. “As we move through the season, we try and really get better from November to our dual meets in January and February, to here while knowing that we still want to be better yet as we get to NCAA’s in a couple of weeks. Our final sessions show that we still have more in the tank as we get to the NCAA’s.”

While the Cardinal got strong performances from many, one of the biggest performances came from senior captain Erin Voss.

Coach Meehan had nothing but positive things to say about Voss after her first place finish in the 200 backstroke.

“Her performances in swimming and in school and life are just a really good reflection on the kind of person that she is. She works hard every day, she’s a great teammate, she’s our team captain, she’s the scholar athlete of the year, and then in her last ever Pac-12 swim she wins her first Pac-12 individual title which is very cool.”

Voss has had a great four years with Stanford and was very happy to have ended her last Pac-12 with her first individual win in the 200 back going a time of 1:51.37.

But that wasn’t her focus at this meet.

“I’m not really looking at first, I’m way more happy that my team mates got second and third because we practice with each other everyday and just all being on the podium together was such a special feeling,” she said.

Expressing her pure joy of having a fun group of girls to call her family over the past four years, Voss says, “I think about the group of girls that we have, how much fun we have, our coaches, it’s so much fun to go to practice and be with people that are all working towards the same goal and all working so hard everyday. I couldn’t be luckier.”

Erin Voss has an overwhelming amount of love for swimming, her coaches, and mostly her team. She has not only been a part of the Stanford family, but has led it as captain to a Pac-12 four-peat, and is sure to leave a lasting impact on the team long after she hangs up her Stanford cap.
