NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Kieron Bezuidenhout of Novi, Michigan, has decided to remain in-state for his college career following his verbal commitment to Oakland University for the fall of 2022.

He told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Oakland University! I chose Oakland because of the amazing coaching staff and the great team atmosphere. I would like to thank my parents, coach and everyone else who has supported me along the way. I would like to give a special thank you to my coach, Jamie Murphy, because I would not be here if it wasn’t for him. I can’t wait to join such a great team. Go Golden Grizzlies!”

Primarily a distance freestyler, Bezuidenhout does his club swimming with Spartan Aquatic Club and most recently won the 1000 free at the Michigan Open Championships in July where he earned six best times and posted five additional top-8 finishes. He also earned 100% lifetime bests at Indianapolis Sectionals back in March, finishing 20th in the 200m fly.

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:38.90
  • 1000 free – 9:29.11
  • 1650 free – 16:04.78
  • 200 fly – 1:53.16

Bezuidenhout is a great pickup for the Golden Grizzlies as he will add valuable distance freestyle depth to their roster. He would’ve placed ninth in the mile at the 2021 Horizon League Championships where Oakland captured its eighth straight team title.
