Claire Curzan Hits 21.6 50 Free; Twichell Goes 4:40 500 Free at TAC Titans Invite

The TAC Titans hosted their own invitational with the Marlins of Raleigh on Friday evening as 16-year-old Claire Curzan swam a 21.61 in the 50-yard freestyle to just miss her own national age group record that she set a couple weeks ago at 21.51. Curzan swims for the TAC Titans in North Carolina as she broke three national age group records earlier this summer in her first meet back since March.

Curzan has been seemingly hitting on all cylinders this summer as she has not missed a beat with the COVID pandemic still ongoing and affecting the rest of the world. She finished ahead of teammate Brooke Morgan (23.34) and Marlins’ Abby Arens (23.38).

One of the three Olympians already selected for next year, Ashley Twichell, cruised in the 500 freestyle with a 4:40.57 as she will be representing the United States at the Tokyo Olympics in the 10K open water swim and potentially another event if she performs at the Olympic Trials. She won ahead of 16-year-old Charlotte Hook (4:41.83).

Hook also won the 200 IM at 1:57.69 ahead of NC State bound Arens at 1:59.67. Hook represented the United States along with Curzan at the 2019 FINA World Junior Championships.

17-year-old Lance Norris had a notable swim in the 500 free with a 4:23.80 as the rising junior won ahead of Christian Bayo (4:26.51).

Other winners on the night were Michael Cotter (1:48.42) in the 200 IM and Michael Ivy in the 50 free (20.49).

Wish we could be doing meets…not fair some are going and getting times and then so many can’t.

Angela Spinhirne our team “might” get to have a virtual or intersquad meet late September. It IS definitely hard knowing other teams are having meets and yours isn’t. We will all get through this. ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️

Kimberly Pyburn Beladi Sanctioned meets began in July but times did not count towards meet qualifications. August 1 teams could schedule meets within their own LSC and outside with permission from USA Swimming

She probably has an access to a training pool while most doesn’t. It doesn’t feel fair, but the time is impressive, so…..congrats!

Christy Lentz Teague thanks, good for them……practices are not canceled, precautions should be followed of course…..but I think meets should be canceled because not every swimmer has opportunity to practice daily therefore unwillingly not able to participate at meets……Olympics are being canceled for all,……I feel those swimmers with no access to a swimming pool and daily practices, naturaly they feel left out……i pray for this to be over soon, and all the lovers and participants of this beautiful sport will have their happy normal back. 🙂

Guzal Mazitova not sure why anyone needs to feel the need to take this away from her Bcz she was able to train. Good for her. She is going so freaking fast, not like there would be many going that fast in her age group anyways. So why complain

🙂 congrats to her :)…….just think of the rest who doesnt have such an opportunity even to try……no one is taking it away from her, but it’s time of unequal opportunities, it just happened under unfair conditions……it is what it is……best regards 🙂
