NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has received a new verbal pledge for the 2024-25 season from versatile Mia West of Winnipeg, Canada.

She’ll join Jordan Ash and Finley Anderson as a member of the Golden Bears’ class of 2028.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am honoured to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at The University of California, Berkeley! I’d like to thank my past and present coaches, teachers, family and friends who have helped me get to this point. I’d also like to thank the amazing coaching staff at Cal for giving me this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of such a special team! GO BEARS!”

West, who trains with Manta Swim Club, recently set six personal bests at the Canadian Trials back in April. She finished eighth in the 200m free, also winning the 100m free junior final and taking third in the 50m free junior final.

She most recently competed at the Mel Zajac Jr. International Meet where she picked up a victory in the 100m free. She also took second in the 200m fly, third in the 200m free and 50m fly, fourth in the 400m free and eighth in the 100m fly.

Her best times (converted to yards) include:

  • 50 free – 22.81
  • 100 free – 48.96
  • 200 free – 1:45.65
  • 100 back – 55.67
  • 100 fly – 53.04
  • 200 IM – 1:59.90

West’s top times (converted to yards) would’ve already placed her in the B-final of the 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly and 200 IM, as well as the C-final of the 50 free, at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships.
